Have you ever won a lottery ticket that you thought you were gonna lose? That has to be one of the best feelings ever. One time on Christmas I got 3 lottery tickets. They were Santa Claus themed tickets. I didn’t see any of my numbers until the last row. I scratched off a win-all symbol and went insane. I ran upstairs to tell my parents and they couldn’t believe it. We drove to the store the next day and I cashed out my ticket for $150. I was super excited to spend it all on V Bucks and bought one more ticket. I didn’t win, which I knew I wasn’t because of my luck. In my Advent calendar this year I got a $5 ticket and won $15. It wasn’t my biggest win, but it was a win. Christmas came around this year and I was super excited to scratch off my tickets. The moment came. The first ticket…nothing. Second ticket… nothing. Third ticket… nothing. I was so mad I stomped up the stairs because my sister won a lot of money. I was as mad as a dog that doesn’t eat. I will get ‘em next year.

I get bundled up in my warm clothes. The feel of the cold breeze hit my face and I am ready. I walk up the beautiful snowy mounds and lay my skis on the snow. I lift my foot and brush the snow off the bottom of my boot then I click in— CLICK CLICK— as I start to hike over to the ski lift a surge of great excitement rushes through my body. We get in line to board the lift. As we sit on the comfortable seat we await the top of the mountain. We get off the lift and I hear the swoosh of my skis on the snow. As I look down the mountain I notice it’s completely clear. The mountain is wide and steep without a single set of tracks and the view is breathtaking. I start down the mountain as I feel the breeze in my hair. I go faster and faster as if I am free falling. The feeling flying down the mountain clears my mind like nothing matters. I am free, no worries to bother me. I finished the beautiful, perfect, and breathtaking run and feel complete and now I am ready to hit the slopes again . Feeling calm, Feeling confident, Feeling free. Picture this: It’s night time, you're lying in bed. You are restless. The restlessness is not the awesome part of this awesomeness, the awesome is why you can't fall asleep. It’s because the Days We Remember. You smile just thinking about these days, wanting to relive them every single day. The days we remember are biking on smooth trails along a lake, in the most perfect temperature possible, letting the soft breeze hit your face. The days we remember are dancing in cold, soft droplets of rain, along with your friend in the warm night. The days we remember are being outside late, walking down the street, watching the orange and purple sunset in shorts and a T-shirt, without getting cold. The days we remember bring a smile. A smile is a sign of happiness. Happiness is the feeling of never wanting to forget the memory. Memories are why people remember. It feels so nice to just live. Living with no worries, no homework, no dues. Close your eyes, think about it for a second. Waking up naturally, eating breakfast, and heading straight outdoors, going on walks, runs, bikes, Until dawn. Coming home late, but still, no chastisement. These are the days we remember, days filled with fun, joy, laughter. Memories. Rush, rush, rush. Pack up all your clothes, homework, devices, chargers….. and earbuds. Don’t let the car leave without you. Throw your bag in the car, and plop in the backseat. While everyone piles in, you can’t help but think about how excited you are. How excited you are to place your earbuds into the very nicely fitted slots in your ear. Slots in your ear that will very soon be filled with music. Music that makes you feel hyped up and happy. A few seconds later, you are pulling out of your driveway, smiling. The happy thoughts of Spotify blasting through your ears on 100 volume, as you drive through the rural corn farms of Ohio get the best of you, and you reach into your bag. You dig your hand around for a moment, and then sigh in relief when you pull your earbuds out, and put them into your ears. Once the earbuds are in your ears, blaring your favorite tunes, you feel that neither your siblings nor your parents nor screaming nor traffic could get your attention. Over all the blasting music you are filling your ears with, all you can think to yourself is “This is awesome!”. Twas the night before Christmas, on December 24th, I look out the window as a smile spreads across my face. I see specks of green and red decorations across the neighborhood. I see the twinkling lights— rainbow or gold. I see a blanket of snow spread across the no longer visible grass. I see the sparkle of light reflecting off of the snow-covered trees. I see the church come into view as I’m headed to the Christmas Eve service. My family with coordinating outfits. I am filled with happiness as my dad next to me passes the flame onto my candle light. My mind at peace, as everyone comes together to sing “Silent Night.” I open the door and am greeted by the mouthwatering smell of cheese and creamy sauce cooking on top of noodles. As I stuff breadsticks into my mouth, there is not a pause in laughter with my cousins and grandparents. They walk out, and my brother and I begin our yearly tradition. We exchange our gifts one to the other. I smile because he worked hard on a drawing for me. It says, “from Ryan,” in his messy handwriting. My family heads upstairs and I hear, “‘Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse…” as I doze off. An awesome thing, to me, is something that fills you with pure happiness. On December 24th, I feel happiness at every single moment. My awesome is Sunsets on the Beach. Out on the water floating when all the sudden a burst of colors paints a picture over you. This is one of the best feelings that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. It sets a good mood for the rest of the night. The blue water reflects the yellow, orange, and pink colors. It is like art when the painting is amazing and you are in shock. Before all the colors arrive it is almost like it’s incomplete. But when you put all the colors together they make the full picture. Once the sunset happens it is dark. This is also a great feeling when the moon is bright and is reflecting on the water. All you see is the moonlight and the person you’re with. Sunrise wake up. Up goes the sun. Sun goes down in a graceful way. Beach sunset are amazing. You're probably wondering why traveling is awesome. There are a few reasons that it is awesome. One, is you get to see the world and so many awesome historical, fun, and wonderful sights. Two, traveling can bring family and friends closer together and discover new facts about them and see how they respond to what you think is awesome. Three, traveling is just fun. You get to leave the house and explore the world, meet new people, learn new languages, cultures, and ways of life. Four, I feel it is just nice to go explore and go to new states and say I wanted to go to that place, I went and saw that place, and I left that place… and along the way you make great memories. Five, when you travel you can make a list of the best places you have gone to and then go back there because one place might be more thrilling than the last. Like if you like beaches and you travel to a new beach you might like that beach more than your other beach that you used to go to. Six, traveling can make you try new things like food, religion, culture, and way of life. Life is so different everywhere, and traveling can help you see it all. All the things I just said is why traveling is my awesome. Sports are like life. They teach Teamwork, Passion, Discipline, Hard Work, and Compassion. Sports teach you things that can’t be taught by yourself. They teach life lessons that are deeper than life. Sports pick people up when they’re down. Sports bring people together in a way you never thought they could by holding events they can also help communities. Sports can change lives and even communities. That is why I have loved them ever since I was little. They kept me active and I made many friends from sports. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them because they build character and personality. Sports make people happy in tough times when they’re going through something and focus on something else. They also make people stronger and better. But I wouldn’t have started sports if it wasn’t for my family and others who encourage people to start and enjoy something in life that is truly awesome. Sports build friendships. For example Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love are best friends from basketball, and they didn’t even know each other. Sports are as exciting as a roller coaster. Either playing or watching sports will always keep you on the edge of your seat. Sports can always teach young kids the value of hard work so even if they quit sports it's a valuable skill to have later in life. Sports are the best thing in my life. Sports teach valuable life skills. Sports will always be awesome. Just 3 years ago during COVID my best drawing was a stick figure with 2 strands of hair. I look back to the things I drew during the beginning of COVID and can’t believe that I was the same person. Art is my passion and I’ve spent years of my life improving and slowly my artwork has gotten better. The feeling I get when a drawing or painting comes out the way I wanted it to is awesome. In the future I would love to maybe even go into an art related career. My old drawings remind me of a photo album. I can remember exactly where I was and when I drew it which is why I love saving my old art work. With art I continue to see progress through my drawings which might just be my favorite part. It took a while to get better but getting better was worth it. I think back to my old drawings and wonder If maybe one day I’ll look back to my current drawings with the same thoughts, but right now I feel proud of my drawings and always feel excited to show the newest ones to my family. There is nothing in the world better than the feeling that the Christmas season brings. While we drive through town looking at lights and listening to Christmas music, the excitement of the upcoming festivities builds quickly. I am filled with happiness as the warm and comforting smell of hot chocolate fills the kitchen while decorating the Christmas tree and watching The Polar Express. I am filled with happiness as we make our way to the airport to pick up all of the visiting cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. I am filled with happiness as our family is finally together and hanging out without a pause in the laughter. As we prepare to go to sleep on December 24th, my younger cousins keep me up as the thought of opening presents dances through their heads and prevents them from falling asleep. On the actual day of Christmas, they run into my room before the sun has even risen to wake me up as they cannot wait any longer to see what Santa has brought them. There is no way I can be annoyed as I am also filled with eagerness and excitement for the day ahead of us. A smile stays stuck on all of our faces the rest of the day as the whole family arrives at our house to spend the rest of the day with each other. We all catch up and open presents until it is finally time to eat the annual and heavily anticipated cavatelli and meatballs. The goodbyes at the end are sad, but the new memories we have made truly make it all worth it. It Iis the most wonderful time of the year. |
