Video games-- the beautiful reality that isn’t reality. I just love it when you play a video game with friends or by yourself and you don’t have to worry about anything bad happening to you. Video games are like a way to escape from the real world and just be in another universe. Rocket League, Fortnite, Ape Legends, Minecraft, and Valorant are perfect games to play just to relax and have fun with friends and/ or family. Minecraft is probably one of my favorite games to play because it’s a game where you don’t have to worry about a lot of stuff and you can just be calm and build whatever you want from a tiny house to a giant Swedish Meatball. Fortnite is one of those games where people can rage in the game or you can go into creative mode and just have fun box fighting or doing a deathrun. Video games can be a key part of your life for some people. A lot of people think it's their actual job. Some people from streamers to people who play for fun, it all comes down to one thing and that is to just escape the real world.

One thing that is awesome is the Rubik’s cube because it’s the best. They are the most satisfying things in the world because you can move the pieces around to match. When they pop then it is going to be the frustrating part because you have to fix the cube again. Fixing the pop is the fun part because you can fix it as it was from the beginning. While we are on the topic, I want to talk about speedcubing. It is the best competition where speedcubers come and do the cube in like a few seconds. They don’t even stop to think about the next step. They just cube until it is done. The movements are called algorithms that take a long time to learn because you have to memorize them so when you join the competition they will ask to put the cheat sheet away. They are the easiest way to get distracted from other things. You better get the cube a good clean sometimes because they can get rusty where there will most likely be a pop coming in so we better get the cube clean at some point. This is the most amazing in my opinion in the world. Thank you for reading this. Reptiles are awesome. They are misunderstood, they are misinterpreted, they are misconceived. A common phrase that I hear sometimes is, “The only good snake is a dead snake” and it is disappointing. Herpetophobia, specifically ophidiophobia, is extremely common in today's world. Hundreds of snakes are needlessly killed each year because of mistaken identity and misunderstanding. It is built into our genetic code. Millions of years ago our ancestors, such as the australopithecus, were killed by venomous snakes. We developed a healthy fear of them. However, nowadays, more people are killed by bee stings than snake bites, and yet our culture still fears them. Snakes and lizards are generally depicted as evil, deadly, vicious. It is just not true. Pop culture has influenced the world to fear them. It goes as far as most religions having snakes represent evil. For example, the story of Adam and Eve depicts a snake as cunning, devious, and conniving. The snake is shown to be “satan”. Another thing that influences people is misinformation. When growing up, if you are told that snakes are terrible monsters, you are most likely going to fear them and tell your children to fear them as well, which restarts the cycle. Snakes and lizards are not “out to get you” as most people think. They are fascinating, for example some people get creeped out by how snakes move, however this is an exceptional evolutionary feat. Not having legs allows snakes to easily enter the burrows of prey such as mice, rabbits, and chipmunks. The way they move is amazing. There are four types of locomotion in snakes, Serpentine Locomotion, Concertina Locomotion, Crotaline Locomotion (AKA sidewinding), and Rectilinear Locomotion. It basically boils down to the snakes controlling the movement of different muscle groups to propel themselves forward. Let’s start with serpentine locomotion, serpentine locomotion is that side-to-side motion that you almost always associate with snakes. And what they do is they push themselves off of a sturdy object like a rock, a log, or a branch and then they push down where their body bends to propel themselves forward. This is also called Lateral Undulation. Bring that up at a family dinner or something to sound really smart. The second type of movement seen in the snake world is called concertina locomotion. In this type of movement, the snakes will reach forward and anchor the front half of their bodies down, and then they pull forward and scrunch up the middle part of their body, then finally they anchor the back part of their body, and repeat. The third type of locomotion is sidewinding locomotion. It is pretty self explanatory and is most commonly associated with Sidewinders. The Sidewinder is a type of rattlesnake found in the southwestern region of the United States, as well as Mexico. It takes a lot of time to explain and is basically walking and slithering combined. I would look it up because it is extremely cool to watch. Sidewinding is often seen in snakes that live in very hot environments because the movement causes minimal contact between their belly and the hot surface that they’re traveling across. The fourth and final type of movement is Rectilinear Locomotion. This type of locomotion was not understood until VERY recently. In just 2017 an Ohio professor did an extensive study and was able to figure out how they’re able to move and why they use this method of movement. They will reach forward with their loose belly skin using a specialized group of muscles, and then they anchor their belly in place while the rest of their body follows behind. This happens in many different points along the body, all the while their dorsal scales (back scales) are in the same spot, holding the spine in the same position so it’s basically just slowly moving forward thanks to all the movement of the belly skin below. It is a very repetitive process happening at a pretty quick rate. It is often seen in snakes that are either fossorial, meaning they live primarily underground, or it’s found in snakes that like to burrow from time to time. I’ve always said that the key to fear is not knowing enough, so I like to share information on reptiles and spread awareness. I hope that this cleared up some of your misconceptions of reptiles, specifically snakes. I wish that one day, these animals will be seen as the true beautiful creatures that they are. In my opinion breakfast is essentially awesome, especially when you make the full meal, and always remember to make the bacon. Putting the English muffin in the toaster-- anxiously waiting for the right time. When you toast it so perfectly it is s’more brown, pop it goes as the toaster pops. Rushing to grab a plate and a butter knife. But having to be patient while your eggs and bacon are cooking on the stove. The smell of eggs and bacon mixing with the butter smells great. The sizzling of the grease in the bacon pan and the stirring of the eggs. Once you start taking the eggs of the pan you know you are ready for that butter on the muffin. Ready to put that delicious yellow butter. The way that it fits into the little pockets and spreads the butter everywhere. When that delicious yellow butter starts to melt and form little pools and you start to put everything on your plate, taking a bite of the crunchy bacon. Pouring yourself a tall, big glass of orange juice, and grabbing a napkin. Mmm, Mmm, Mmm, Breakfast is so AWESOME, and you can do it all again day after day. The little wonders of life. Surely, most of us have taken the occasional long road trip. It is painfully excruciating to sit in a car for well over eight hours when you know you probably have another two to go. After awhile, your back begins to hurt, you grow impatient, and maybe even a little hungry. What’s in it for us? Do I really have to sit back here in this car watching the highway for thirteen hours straight? Why isn’t teleportation invented by now? It is a true shame, shame that humans really haven’t figured out the technology to support teleportation by now. However, when you begin to see your destination, whether it be waves, mountains, tall skyscrapers, or even a forest, the excitement hiding inside you begins to bubble up. You begin to understand why you came all this way, and it is truly a beautiful feeling. Every part of your mind becomes relaxed as you take the first step out of the car, finally, after hours of driving. Do not take it for granted. Perhaps, these few days at your final destination could be the best ones of your life. Perhaps, one day, you will find joy in simple moments like this more often, just by reaching your final destination, no matter how far you have to go. One thing I find awesome is creating and inventing. The thought of being able to make almost anything from your imagination with your own hands is fascinating and exciting. I can solve problems, create solutions, explore ideas by making something myself. Though there are many ways to create, my preferred method is through woodworking.I love shaping things that others would discount as “junk” into something beautiful and unique. Sometimes I plan ahead of time what I am going to make, and sometimes I make it up as I go. That’s what is so thrilling about it- I can do whatever I want, with a plan or no plan, to create something amazing. I can use the things I create in my daily life, such as the desk I made for online school out of an old couch. The final sense of accomplishment upon completion is overwhelming. It is awesome that I can look at something and know that I created that from nothing. I had an idea that I pulled out of my mind and into the physical world. The entire process of creating something is awesome, and I cannot pick just one part that I enjoy the most. Pssshsshhs Pop! My can of Coke opens with a crisp sound soothing to my ears. I take a whiff of the sugary soda and my nostrils breathe in a plethora of wonderful scents. The smell of the sweet nectar, the nectar of gods. As I raise up the can towards my mouth, I experience a split second of excitement even though I have gone through the act of this many times. The moment passes and, as the drink slides onto my tongue, I begin to experience a wave of flavor that only Coke can provide me. I try to savor the feeling as I let the drink rest on my tongue and close my eyes. I can almost see their mascot, the polar bear, as I am sliding across the ice towards the horizon-- the aurora borealis hanging over my head. I open my eyes and start to agonize over the decision of... should I drink the rest or should I sip slowly? This thought fills my head as I stare at the can and attempt to fight the temptation to down the coke in one swoop. In the end, as if giving into some almost biblical temptation, my willpower fails and the next thing I know half the can is gone. Personally, I love driving. Driving is such a great way to relax and ease my mind. However, driving can be super stressful with other cars zooming past on a crowded road. It is so much more fun when the roads are clear and I can just drive and drive and drive without having to worry about others around me. The thrill of driving on an open road is exhilarating, especially when playing music as well. Once the perfect song comes on and no one else is around, it is like absolute heaven. Being someone who connects well with music, this just makes an open road even better. Plus, the feeling of freedom that comes with driving on an open road while blasting music is like no other. As a busy person, it is always so calming to not rush anywhere. I love being able to just relax when I can, and driving is definitely one of my favorite ways of doing so. Besides, no one would ever convince me that open roads are stress-inducing or a hassle in any way. Whether it is alone or with friends, driving on open roads while having a little party in the car is awesome. Waking up in the morning in a nice warm bed is one of the most relaxing things to me. What’s even better than that is when I have a soft, loving, sweet kitty cat on my chest. A “purr, purr, purr” can be heard all over the room. I lay my hand upon the kitty cats head and begin to show my love, love that can never be broken with my baby. My baby cat’s name is Puss. Puss gets into everything, as he is a wacky, wonky, wonderful feline. He extends his paw up to my mouth as if to say, 'please, stop talking so I may return to my slumber, peasant.' I obey his wishes and I silence my words. Puss is my amazing king, he is pure royalty. He explores the great outdoors and fights with plants every chance he gets. There is nothing Puss loves more than laying in bed and dreaming his dreams of eating food and being a classy feline. I think Puss is the most special and gentle cat there is. He doesn’t bite or swat, but he does scream like a baby. I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow to re-meet the love of my life. I believe human’s connection with music runs deeper than entertainment value. It has a deep emotional connection to all of us. This is why finding the perfect song or album that defines a time in your life is one of the best feelings in the world. Great music can make great memories. Having an album define a period of your life is like having a time capsule you can always look back on. When I go back to a certain album I always think of the memories and feelings I had during the time I was first listening to it. The summer of 2019 was probably one of the best periods of my life, and Igor by Tyler The Creator defined the whole period. The dreamy synths embodied the warm summer nights I had spent with friends. The hard-hitting production defined the excitement of my first few months of driving and the freedom of expression I had. The emotional lyrics described the feeling of mystery I had maturing into my own and coming out to my family. Other albums have defined different periods of my life, but Igor is the most hard hitting in terms of emotional connection. Music always reads what you are feeling. Music always has your back. Music always keeps you going. |
