There is nothing in the world better than the feeling that the Christmas season brings. While we drive through town looking at lights and listening to Christmas music, the excitement of the upcoming festivities builds quickly. I am filled with happiness as the warm and comforting smell of hot chocolate fills the kitchen while decorating the Christmas tree and watching The Polar Express. I am filled with happiness as we make our way to the airport to pick up all of the visiting cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. I am filled with happiness as our family is finally together and hanging out without a pause in the laughter. As we prepare to go to sleep on December 24th, my younger cousins keep me up as the thought of opening presents dances through their heads and prevents them from falling asleep. On the actual day of Christmas, they run into my room before the sun has even risen to wake me up as they cannot wait any longer to see what Santa has brought them. There is no way I can be annoyed as I am also filled with eagerness and excitement for the day ahead of us. A smile stays stuck on all of our faces the rest of the day as the whole family arrives at our house to spend the rest of the day with each other. We all catch up and open presents until it is finally time to eat the annual and heavily anticipated cavatelli and meatballs. The goodbyes at the end are sad, but the new memories we have made truly make it all worth it. It Iis the most wonderful time of the year.

12:00 AM, I decided instead of sleeping in my gentle bed, I want to find a new horror film to adore. I turn on the 65”, flatscreen television, although I have not watched every horror film in existence, I take 10 minutes to find the “perfect” pick for the night, The Shining. A classic, creepy, and fantastic movie according to others, but I was gonna be the judge of those statements. However, like other movies, I must pick out the perfect snack to indulge during the scenic adventure of the film. I walk briskly to the pantry and open up the tall, beige double doors that expose the 100s of different foods to choose. I obviously crane my eyes straight to the Pop Secret Movie Theater Butter Popcorn, an alpha among others. I put it in the microwave, clicking the popcorn button once, convenient for my sleep deprived mind. I stand, watching every rotation the packet makes, hearing every “POP” of the corn, hoping I end up with a scarce amount of kernels. The movie begins, the unsettling tunes start off the setting for the whole movie. As I watch I know that with every character viewed, every jumpscare shown, and every injury emitted, the plot thickens. Through the sudden silence, and stoppage of music, I know something will come out, but when? That is what makes a good horror movie, not expecting when a petrifying scare will come. What I also enjoy about horror movies is characters' noteworthy reactions to the supernatural. The way Stephen King puts the characters in empathetic situations and builds the plot around them shows how well he is able to manipulate the scene. Horror movies are what makes children scared at night. To most people subwoofers are obnoxious and loud and annoying and are thought by others to “show off.'' For an audiophile like myself, a subwoofer is just awesome. Imagine this: You are listening to your favorite song and the beat is just starting to pick up. You are waiting for the drop then the bass hits and it just feels awesome. You listen as the sounds shake your car and it makes you smile. The boom is obnoxious to others, the boom is pleasant to oneself. Subwoofers just pull everything together and make the music that you're listening to just that much more enjoyable. When I listen, I listen with excitement. Subwoofers just make life awesome. Water is love, water is life. Life which brings happiness. Happiness is what we live for. The best water is arguably going to the water fountain after a long-fought battle on the basketball court during recess. But personally, I find the best water to be from the bathroom faucet late at night. No one ever wants to get out of bed once they have already gotten comfortable, but this water is the only exception. The pure joy and excitement that you experience when you finally quench your thirst is unmatched. This alone makes the trip worth it, even if you have to take another five minutes to get comfortable again. It may be an even better feeling than winning the Super Bowl. It is like a drug, once you take that first sip you won’t want to stop sipping. The taste of the water, the texture of the water, the temperature of the water, all make you come back wanting more. The feeling of the water swimming all throughout your body makes you feel so alive in the late hours. In fact sometimes after that sip, you can’t go back to sleep because of how amazing it makes you feel. In some ways it is like pre-workout but for sleeping, it makes you feel amazing and you feel like you can run through the walls right into your neighbor’s living room. The late-night faucet water covers all the factors of a great sip of water: you being thirsty, great temperature, great taste, fantastic texture. Hopefully everyone will experience this awesomeness at least once in their life, no matter if you are a grandma or even a criminal, no one deserves to live without this. I got in, I sat down, I waited. As the other cars passed by, I stared out the window feeling the wind go through my hair. A long journey ahead of me with little to do. I come to find my attention elsewhere as I dream of the days to come. My eyes wander to my phone, mindlessly checking, swiping, staring. Time passes as I stare down the long road ahead. As I wait, boredom fills my mind. Seconds turned to minutes. Minutes turned to hours. Hours turned to days. At least that’s what it felt like in my tiny corner of the car. Even as I slept, the time would go by slowly, Anticipation. Events filling my mind, Planning, Waiting, Watching. Over and over the vehicles pass by each one different, but all the same. The sky turns dark, I watch as rain starts to pour ahead. I watch the droplets race down my window, I watch as they go faster and faster until they fall out of sight. As I watch the sun drift below the tall hills on the horizon, nearing the end of my long journey, I ponder the grand new adventures that follow. It’s the first day, I wake up bright and early ready for the long day of calmness, coolness, and crispness of the forest. There is sizzling bacon on the stove, on the stove in a pan there are fluffy eggs. Fluffy and airy muffins await my tastebuds. All the smells are so delicious, I can almost taste them. Before we go out, I bundle up and get my rifle, gear, and myself prepared for the prolonged task ahead. We get to the gamelands, I step out of the car knowing my goal. Walking through the cold, you can only imagine what the day holds. Will it be adventurous? Will it be active? Will it be deflating? I hope it’s one of the first 2, preferably the second one. When I finally settle in, I always have to be alert and diligent even though you are just getting set up. Rustling in the leaves always gets me a little jumpy. Staying calm is key when hunting. Is today the day? The feeling is in the air, the whistling in the wind, the light shining through the leaves in the trees. All of a sudden I see it peering through the leaves, the snow, and the bushes. A burly buck with 8 points staring right at me. I take a deep breath--hughhhh--stare down my scope, and slowly pull the trigger. Booom! Down goes the big one. All at once, I have completed the mission as the day comes to a close. During a hard, well-fought match the best thing in the world is the splash of raindrops falling on your face cleansing it of sweat. The rush of adrenaline pouring through my body as the rain disinfects me of my mistakes causing my muscles to work faster, to work stronger, to work better. Soccer is my favorite sport to play, and whenever it rains all I can think to do is slide tackle due to the messy mud and the funness of it. I would come home and my white jersey would be darkened brown and my mom would scold me for ruining my jersey. When it rains, the ball is unforgiving, with the ball shifting with the mud sliding on every blade of grass it touches. Rain however does create a great deal of complexities such as sliding on mud. The ball skates, the opposing team skates, I skate. Rain is a great soothing factor for any sport causing the player to feel immersed in a whole new experience where he/she practically resets causing them to fight harder for the victory they will soon achieve in the end. Rain is gratifying as it cleanses the body of its forgotten errors causing it to be Rewarding Rain. He lies there completely at peace, undisturbed, snoring as loud as a freight train. The undeniable urge to envelope him overwhelms me. I slowly approach him wondering what he is dreaming about today. I reach down and inhale the blissful, unmistakable smell of his glorious paws. The Frito-like scent fills my nostrils similarly to how a walking taco does. Lab paw, Doodle paw, Golden paw, provide the same joyful scent. Non dog owners are missing out entirely on the calming effects of the furry, padded goodness. Not only does the fine aroma of this appendage suit me, but there is an abundance of cuteness packed into these paws as well. For instance, upon waking from one of the numerous naps, one of my favorite things to see is the stretching and spreading of the web like tootsies. Do not underestimate the usefulness of these paws as well. Just as a baby might do when they are sleepy, these paws have been known to rub eyes and snout. It’s unmistakable that sleep is in the near future. When in need of a crunchy or savory treat, these paws are willingly offered to the distributor. As well as diminishing the feeling of failure, a paw is always there to give a high five or a pat on the back when needed most. Dogs are proved to love and be loved, for love is given through their paws.
The song is coming to an end heading to the grand final notes. The song you’ve heard for weeks, you can hear the final lyrics to the song ringing out, and then silence, darkness, and the closing of the curtain. The ending of any show I’ve helped in is something that never gets old. It’s the rush of adrenaline from excitement, It’s the rush of people leaving backstage to see family and friends who came to support them, It’s the rush of a roaring crowd clapping when all is over. These are the feelings I have, and I can’t get over it. It’s the sense of accomplishment and pride I get and even if the show was rough I know that it’s over. Getting compliments like “Great show” “Amazing job” “I’m coming to see this show again” are really great self-esteembusters. To me this feeling isn’t something you can truly feel unless you have experienced it. It’s a feeling that is hard to explain because you need to be in the moment. There are a lot of tiny things that help contribute to the love of finishing your show. I can’t get over the feeling and it’s something that I want to experience for a while and something that I would want others to feel.
Mountain biking is awesome. I enjoy pedaling over hills and around trees on my bike. On my bike I can embrace nature. When I’m embracing nature I can relax and enjoy the breeze. Only when I’m mountain biking I get to zoom over roots and around trees while staying on the trail. What I love so much about mountain biking is that it can be a challenge, or it can be light work. I can be at one with nature. Another thing I like about mountain biking is the flow; When I am able to maintain my momentum and just keep pedaling and pedaling and pedaling. Getting up a hill can be tough, but it is always rewarding when you can send it down the hill and appreciate the berms and jumps. The best part about mountain biking is that it is fun and is great for cardiovascular strength. Mountain biking is different from regular biking because the trails are always evolving. One day, there may be a tree down and I have to stop. When I decide I want to go mountain biking I can be on one of the best trail systems in the region in ten minutes.
