Imagine being in the cafeteria, sitting next to your friends and you told this joke, “Why did the toilet paper roll down the hill? Because it wanted to get to the bottom.” And everyone starts to laugh, which feels awesome to you. Well, that's how I feel when people laugh at my jokes. Everyone loves a little laughter, especially if it is a joke. The feeling of knowing that you are funny to people is truly awesome to me. It’s mainly when you hear that sound “hahaha” fulfill your ears. Whenever I hear people laugh at something I say, I think is awesome how people think I am funny. Knowing that you might make someone's day by telling them a joke feels awesome to me. When people laugh at my jokes, I feel happy because I love to make people laugh. Also, being funny to people can help you relate to people and can help you make new friends. I think it is awesome when I make some happy when they are having a bad day by making them laugh or even smile. One of the best feelings in the world is when you make someone laugh so hard until they cannot let out another laugh. Making everyone laugh including adults is awesome to me because it feels amazing when you hear that sound of laughter satisfies your ears. Another awesome feeling is when someone brings up a joke that you told a long time ago, but you still laugh at it because it is still funny to you and to that person. Telling jokes to people can help you make long term friendships with them and can make someone's day. When you make someone laugh, you leave with such a good feeling of happiness and satisfaction that you can not get from anywhere else.

If you skate frequently you will know the exact feeling I am talking about, your skates are dull and you can barely turn. Your slipping, falling, and overall not having a good day.Your practice or game ends and you know you have to do something about this. After you get undressed, you take them in to get sharpened and you pay the worker, he asks how you like your blades cut for me it's always been half inch, but that's just me. You watch meticulously as he pulls the sakte back and forth along the spinning grind stone. Sparks fly out in every direction and you know you will have sharp edges for a while to come. When he finishes he runs the skate stone back across the blade doing one last check. The worker hands them back to you, I like to run my hand across the blade checking the sharpness of them. You have to be careful when doing this though, because you can cut yourself. The warm feel the steel has is like socks coming out of the dryer. As you get ready to step on the ice, you make sure not to step on anything that could damage the blade. When you get on the ice and have your first skate with the freshly cut blades you have extremely sharp turns. It feels like you have brand new skates. The sound it makes oh the sound, its glorious. The sound the skate makes as the freshly sharpened steel digs into the ice is breathtaking. It's a sound that every hockey player knows all too well. The satisfaction with that sound is on par with that of popping bubble wrap. The whole practice you feel like a new player going faster and skating harder than previously. That feeling is irreplaceable to me, and that is truly awesome. You have a huge 100 point test tomorrow and have no idea on how you’re going to memorize everything you need. You know you have to get an A, otherwise your parents will ground you and take away your phone. Like any person who gets faced with this ultimatum, you get extremely stressed out and are frantically flipping through every packet and worksheet you’ve ever completed. After two hours of reading over all the material, you try to fill out the needs to know list without looking at your notes. When you start to check your answers with the answer key, you realize that you’ve mixed everything up and got most of it wrong. It’s now 11pm and you’ve given up. You lay down in your bed and decide to just fall asleep and whatever happens on the test happens. But as soon as your eyes close, you realize that you forgot to try to use the app your teacher recommended the class to use. It’s only 11pm so you think to yourself that you might as well try using it for at least half an hour. You pull up Quizlet on your laptop and create an account. You search up the subject of the test and hundreds of quizlets pop up. Your heart filled with hope as you clicked on the first one and find a 100 term quizlet with every single item you needed to know for your test. As you go through the different options on how to study, you see that they have a matching option and a practice test. After an hour of studying you take the practice test and get a 100%! Feeling incredibly grateful to whoever created the quizlet you go to sleep and the next day you take your test and ace it. It’s now the end of the year and you’ve used Quizlet for practically everything your teacher assigns in any subject and you get A’s on almost all of your tests. Your grades from last year before you knew Quizlet existed are considerably lower than your grades now. You feel extremely proud of yourself and have to give some credit to Quizlet for literally saving your grades. Too often do we as humans become bound to the idea of something to come. In these moments, we become blinded to simple facts and logic. I am here to relieve you of this misfortune- in the form of existential crisis. I introduce to you: The Fermi Paradox. The Fermi Paradox, named after the late Italian-American physicist Enrico Fermi- can be collected into a simple question that many people who have gazed upon the stars may have asked themselves: Where is everybody? Or, to put it into more distinct terms, if we live in such an incomprehensibly gargantuan universe, why haven’t we seen any other existence of life beyond our own species? To answer this, we need to come to a collective consensus- There are an infinite number of possibilities of why no human has come across concrete evidence as to the existence of intelligent alien life. Here are the current scientifically accepted explanations: 1: Intelligent life has already visited Earth, but before the rise of humanity. 2: The galaxy has been transferred by intelligent life, but they have not yet found our solar system. 3: Intelligent life has no interest in contacting an inferior species. 4: There’s plenty of communication sent to-and-from numerous intelligent species, but our technology is too primitive to receive or deliver any. Theories such as these can truly humble a person, introducing the possibility that humanity isn’t the only intelligent life that there is, making us common, and unspecial. Yet, hope still wanders through the fog of this theoretical reality: If any of these assertions are correct, all of our technological, cultural, and social advancements that we have made up to this point have not reached their peak; They have time to grow, to flourish, and to advance even more. In all of these dark theories lies a glimmer of hope, and if any of them are proven to be realities, then humanity as a whole has just as much of an incomprehensibly gargantuan space to grow as the universe is large- and that, my friends, is something to look forward to. Imagine you’re on a plane and you hear the pilot announce, “Ladies and gentlemen, we seem to be approaching an area with moderate turbulence. The seat belt sign is now on, please stay in your seats until further notice.” The plane starts flying up and down and left and right and your heart starts beating a bit faster than normal. Babies are screaming, kids are crying, some adults may even have a concerned look on their faces which might make you nervous, too. Unpopular opinion: Turbulence is the BEST. I mean think about it, what’s the worst thing that can happen? Death? And what are the chances of that happening? I don’t know, maybe like 1 in 5 million? So ENJOY it. And if you die? Well, then die happy. Think about it like a roller coaster. It’s nothing different. I mean yeah, I guess you’re like 35,000 feet into the air and all you have protecting you is a tiny little seat belt that you could probably cut with a pair of scissors (especially if you’re flying Spirit Airlines), but in reality, turbulence occurs in almost every flight you go on, and there’s nothing you can do about it, so just have some fun. Close your eyes and imagine you’re on a really lame roller coaster that has some unexpected turns and drops. It’s even BETTER than a roller coaster because you have no idea what’s coming. You can’t see the track in front of you and every single flight you go on is a different ride. In my 15 years of living so far, I’ve been to 19 countries and over 150 flights. When I was a toddler, turbulence was the thing I looked forward to the least while traveling, but once I turned 8, I was experienced enough to understand why it happens and I would look forward to it on flights. You can’t push the clouds away or get out of your seat and fly the plane yourself, so just sit down, look out your window, and enjoy the ride. Through the meaningless drone of everyday life, there are moments where I find myself distracting my mind from the buzz with an equally pointless, but satisfactory activity. There are so many little joys in life that make it worth living. Throwing a wadded up ball of paper into the trash, slinging a rubber band at a target, and flicking a paper football are all examples of this. Yet, none of these compare to the amusement I get from flicking a bottle cap. For some odd reason, the kids whom I do gymnastics with have a collection of Gatorade caps stored in one of the lockers. So one day, instead of actually doing routines on pommel horse, we spent the whole practice seeing who could flick a cap the furthest. This was the first time I’d seen anyone do this, and I was immediately addicted. When I got home, I spent an hour in my living room flicking and trying to figure out how to make it go far. It took me a long time to get my clumsy fingers to work right, but finally, I was able to make a cap soar over 50 feet. Once I was able to do this, I started trying to aim the cap at different things. I would flick it at a target on the wall, in buckets, and even at my sister. I do not suggest the last one though, as she was not as enthusiastic about my success as I was. Nevertheless, I kept flicking the bottle caps, and if I ever drink a water or Gatorade bottle today, I will still probably flick the cap once or twice before throwing it away. Sure, it’s a small thing, but it could brighten up someone’s day or even relieve stress that he or she is dealing with. Therefore, I take advantage of the times I come across a bottle cap. It’s been a long week. The usual five days have passed, but this one felt especially long. The temperature reached over 85° outside on a typical hot summer day and sometimes you need a break from all those heat. So, you turn your air conditioner on to very low temperature to cool yourself down, but don’t you have that feeling where you want your face to be exposed in cold air and your body to be all cuddled up inside a blanket like a caterpillar? It does sound weird when you first hear it, but you will know that sense of feeling when you’ve tried it at least once. Just think about it. A cool breeze passing by your face, also being surrounded and covered by the most fluffiest blanket in the whole entire world. The perfect harmony of 2 things that are the exact opposite, cancels each out and creates this satisfaction. What else could be better? Maybe some fresh, strawberry ice cream, but imagine no parents ranting about your terrible math grade, no pressures from school or friends, no siblings who loves to tease you for their pleasure, no nothing. Everything around you are peaceful, quiet and just tell you everything is okay. Why does it matter so much that you got a C on one of your tests? Who knows? It might be the worst score, best score or just average among your peers. Sometimes, you just gotta let it go. If you are having a really bad day or have problem forgetting your dumb mistakes you’ve made, try this method. It will instantaneously make you fall asleep within 5 minutes and relieve all your stress and worries. If you need more, than add more. Watch Youtube, Netflix, eat, space out, imagine anything you want. The time from the moment you got home to the next morning is all yours to spare. When I wake up and see beautiful rays of sunlight entering my room, it makes me think I will have a good day. The sun is just plain awesome. It is widely accepted that the feeling of warmth makes a person happy, and I am no exception. When I see the endless blue sky, it reminds me of the opportunities I get in life. With every new day, comes new opportunities and enjoyment. Natural light in your room gives it a unique glow, one that lamps will never give. I see the sun as my guide and savior when I am lost, sad, or bored. I always think to myself when the sun is shining bright, now is your time to do something new. The sun glowing in my room always makes my morning a good one as I eagerly get up to ready for the new day. When the ball of fire shines its rays on my face, I feel enlightened by the divine touch of the sun. The sun inspires me to do positive things that help me and others. Even in the darkest moments in life, I look toward the only light, which is the sun. Even though it is millions and millions of miles away from me, it still bothers to shine light in my room, which I find to be awesome. I hope everyone finds the sun to be this way. The perfect summer day, blue sky with no cloud in sight, with the glorious sun, is what I cherish. For those of you (including me) who wake up before the sun rises, you won’t see the sun in your room, and that’s okay. When the last period ends and we students rush outside, the sun is there, waiting for us. The brilliant sun is always burning, and so should our spirit. And if you have that, you are truly as awesome as the sun. You have to admit, beds are amazing things. Imagine having a rough day, being really tired, and then having to sleep on the cold, hard, dirty floor. Doesn’t that seem unfathomable? Even still, we take for granted the coziness and warmth of our beds. The moment your back first touches the soft, gentle bed, it seems as though every muscle, tendon, and ligament in your body begins to melt. They melt until your whole body is a liquid, until you feel no pain, no soreness, and no aching. Then, you begin to sift through everything that happened that day, with the comfort of your soothing, comfy bed allowing you to breathe out all the stress you built up that day. All your thoughts begin to disappear, one by one, until the only thought that comes to mind is how comfortable you are. Slowly, you begin to fall asleep… Nothing bothers you as you sleep. You sleep like a baby without a care in the world. Maybe a bad dream might come along that will startle you awake, but then you will remember that you are on your pleasant, welcoming bed and that nothing can hurt you. Time seems to fly and the morning approaches as fast as light. When you wake up, you feel replenished and restored. You dread leaving the comfort of your reassuring, hospitable bed, but you build up the courage to get up and go about your day. However, you forget to acknowledge the grandeur of your majestic, familiar bed and how well you slept the previous night. Your day quickly comes to an end and you do a trust-fall into your amiable, dependable bed. No matter what happens in your day, your unchanging, tranquil bed will always be there for you. It is like a home inside a home. It is one of the only constants in an ever-changing life. I haven’t had any water for probably more than 7 hours. Whether it was because I forgot to take my water bottle to school or maybe because I was so ignorant and my focus was on other things. I long for water all day but I know I have to wait until I get home. There are only 5 more periods left. 4 more. 3 more. 2 more. The final period. Still dry as a barren desert. When I reach home, the first thing I do is fill a glass of water. I see the cold water fill up the glass. My mouth feels as if it is yearning for water. I take a sip. The first sip. So refreshing and exhilarating. It is so satisfying as the cool water touches my mouth. It hits my teeth first and makes them shiver. The water slides down my throat as it cools my whole body. I began to drink faster feeling more relieved. A feeling of bliss and delight washes over me as I gulp it down. A feeling people often overlook. Maybe because there are more important things to worry about, like school, work, projects, the new Netflix show. Maybe it is because people just do not understand the value of water. The thing that makes us live, breathe, survive. The thing that some people in the world long for and do not have access to. It makes me think of how lucky I am to be able to be consuming something that causes such relief and comfort. It makes me think about just how much satisfaction I receive from that one sip. Taking a minute to think about the value of water and what it does for people, how life altering it truly is in the sense that it is more important than any human resource. The first sip, the best sip. |
